On Thursday afternoon, the Municipal Educational Building of Ciudad Rodrigo was the setting for the central event of the Congress on Rural Education, organized by the National Association of Teachers (ANPE). Under the title “Bringing historical heritage and traditions closer to rural education to strengthen local identity,” the congress brought together nearly 200 teachers.
The event concluded with two lectures, given by Emilio Martín Serna and José Ramón Cid Cebrián. Of those attending, more than 50 took part in person, after having previously visited the exhibition Pueblos y raíces by Violeta Monreal, at the Casa de la Cultura, while around 140 teachers from across Castilla y León joined virtually, according to figures provided by the organizers.
The purpose of this event was to “put the spotlight on Rural Schools,” as highlighted by Sonia García Gómez, national vice-president of ANPE, who reminded teachers that “what you experience must be passed down from generation to generation: we see ourselves as guardians of traditions and culture.” In this regard, Mayor Marcos Iglesias emphasized that Ciudad Rodrigo is “a place of traditions.”
