Ciudad Rodrigo is establishing itself as one of the main drivers of the La Raya Socioeconomic Plan in the province of Salamanca, with an investment that will exceed 2 million euros earmarked for strategic projects in economic development, social innovation and support for entrepreneurship.
The announcement was made by the president of the Diputación de Salamanca, Javier Iglesias; the territorial delegate of the Junta de Castilla y León, Eloy Ruiz; and the mayor of Ciudad Rodrigo, Marcos Iglesias, during the presentation of the progress of the actions planned under this programme, driven by the Junta in collaboration with the provincial councils (diputaciones) of Salamanca and Zamora.
These investments are part of the 4.6 million euros budgeted for 2026 in the province of Salamanca, within an overall contribution exceeding 5.3 million euros for the next two years. The funding comes from the Junta de Castilla y León, with 2 million euros, and from the Diputación de Salamanca, which contributes 2.6 million.
Boosting social innovation from the La Estrella Centre
One of the key projects will be the comprehensive renovation of the La Estrella Social Innovation Centre, which will become a leading space for social innovation, entrepreneurship and collaborative work with an impact at both the regional (comarcal) and provincial level.
This centre will also feature a coworking space designed to encourage the creation and consolidation of business initiatives. Together, these actions will support up to 80 projects between 2026 and 2030, helping to generate employment and retain talent in the area.
More industrial land and direct support for entrepreneurs
The Plan also includes the development of the Terralba Industrial Estate, a strategic infrastructure that will expand the supply of modern industrial land, facilitate the establishment of new businesses and support the growth of existing ones.
Additionally, Ciudad Rodrigo will host one of the two Intervention Offices of the La Raya Plan in the province, offering advice and support to entrepreneurs, self-employed workers and businesses, facilitating the launch of projects and the attraction of investment.
A joint commitment to the development of the territory
During the presentation, the president of the Diputación highlighted Ciudad Rodrigo's key role within the Plan, stressing that it represents “a clear commitment to rural development based on investment and concrete projects”.
Along the same lines, the territorial delegate of the Junta noted that these actions strengthen the municipality's role as an economic and social driving force along the border, within a coordinated strategy between administrations.
For his part, the mayor of Ciudad Rodrigo spoke very positively about this institutional commitment, highlighting the municipality's historic importance as a meeting point with Portugal and its potential to become a hub for attracting talent, employment and cross-border businesses.
